Sharksmilez Steps into the Spotlight: First Shoot Highlights

Model Instagram @sharksmilez accompanied by @dreamwirez

This might be the best shoot I’ve ever done—both creatively and in terms of longevity. The images not only performed incredibly well on Instagram, but the content has remained timeless. We've stretched this set across multiple releases, and even now, I’m still posting new selects. The response has been consistently strong.

What made the shoot even more memorable was the dynamic behind the scenes. Sharksmilez (Dylan) brought her boyfriend, Rhys Davis (@dreamwirez), to the session. Normally, I avoid extra guests on set, but Dylan insisted—Rhys was new to LA, wanted to ensure she felt safe, and as a photographer himself, was simply looking to observe.

As the shoot progressed, Rhys and I started talking shop and realized we shared a similar shooting style. That conversation naturally evolved into him helping out as an assistant, giving feedback, and becoming a second set of eyes while I worked with Dylan. His insight was solid, and the energy on set was upbeat—especially during the quick wardrobe changes when Rhys and I kept each other laughing.

After the studio session, we took it to the beach to take full advantage of the day. Dylan lives in San Francisco, so I wanted to make the most of her time in town. The shoot was followed by a feast—we were starving, and the meal turned into one of those rare post-shoot hangouts that really stick with you.

Since then, both Dylan and Rhys have become like extended family. They're incredible people, raising a child together, and I couldn’t be happier for them. This shoot was special in every way—visually, personally, and in the creative bond it helped build.

Camera Setup

  • Body: Canon 6D

  • Lenses: Sigma 35mm f/1.4, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8

This entire session was shot using natural light. The studio room at FD Studios had excellent ambient lighting, which made it a great space to work with minimal gear.

One small oversight—bring wipes. The floor wasn’t spotless, and I ended up having to retouch the model’s feet in post-production. I’d also recommend packing oil absorbent sheets for skin touch-ups to save time in editing.

Great light, strong results—but having a few small tools on hand can make all the difference.
